About Lacrosse

Lacrosse is a team game of Indian origin, the rules of which were finally established in the first half of the 19th century in Canada (where it is considered a national sport). Played on a grassy field, it consists in placing a ball in the opponent’s goal using a special triangular racket In 1904 and 1908 it was an Olympic competition and is onsidered to be the prototype of ice hockey.

Lacrosse is a contact sport. Minor clashes and collisions with sticks are allowed and treated as part of the game. Each quarter begins with a face-off. It consists in the fight of specially designated players for the ball. Defensemen and attackmen may not cross the designated lines until one of the midfielders has taken over the ball. Face-off also starts the game after each goal scored. At present, 68 countries in the world are members of the World Lacrosse federation, which has around 1 000 000 players.

About ELC

The history of the European Lacrosse Championships goes back to 1995, when the European Lacrosse Federation (ELF) was established. That year, the first Men's European Championships was organised in Prague. Until 2001, the men's ELC was held every year; since 2004, the European men's teams have been facing each other every 4 years.

Apart from 2001 when the German team won, all gold medals were won by the team from England. Will that be the case this year too? We will find out in July 2021 during the European Lacrosse Championships in Wrocław, Poland.

For all those interested in the history and results of the previous championships we recommend the ELC entry on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Lacrosse_Championships.

The European Championships in Wrocław will be exceptional for many reasons. This is the first competition in the history of EFL that has been postponed. Due to the international pandemic COVID-19, ELC did not take place in 2020, but was postponed to 2021. It is also the first European Championships, which is also a prelude to the World Lacrosse Championship (Los Angeles, USA). However, as the Organising Committee, we are convinced that they will be exceptional due to the unique sports atmosphere that will be present in Wrocław.
